Initial Training Courses
If you are looking into becoming qualified as a language teacher, you need to take a course leading to the appropriate qualification. IH schools offer these initial courses:
Cambridge CELTA
An intensive 120-hour (60 min) = 160-hour (45 min) 4-week course leading to the Cambridge English CELTA qualification.
IH Certificate in Teaching Languages
An intensive 120-hour (60 min) = 160-hour (45 min) 4-week course leading to the IH Certificate qualification (on which the CELTA was based). The IHC is also available for the teaching of other languages: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Spanish.
Specialised Training
IHCYL (IH Certificate in teaching younger learners)
A 50-hour (60 min) = 67-hour (45 min) course (post-initial training) to extend your skills in teaching Younger Learners. Only available at IH TT Centres.
FTBE (Foundation in teaching Business English)
A 50-hour (60 min) = 67-hour (45 min) course (post-initial training) to extend your skills in teaching Business English. Only available at IH London and selected IH TT Centres.
Postgraduate Certificate in Translation Skills
A qualification from City University, London, offering a distance-learning course with face-to-face workshops in selected IH TT Centres.
Advanced Training
DELTA (face-to-face)
An intensive 8-week course leading to the Cambridge English DELTA qualification.
Distance DELTA
A 9-month distance learning course leading to the Cambridge English DELTA qualification. Only available at IH London, but with Orientation Courses at selected IH TT Centres.
Diploma in Educational Management
A 9-month distance learning course to extend your skills in Educational Management. Only available at IH London.
Masters
Aston University offers a Masters in TEFL which includes modules written by International House. The IH Diploma in Educational Management may be counted as credit towards the Masters
