Cambridge English Key (KET) - A2

Cambridge ESOL - KET - podrobnosti

What is KET?

The KET - Cambridge KEY English Test is the first level of Cambridge ESOL Exams. It is an elementary level exam, set at level A2 of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework for modern languages. KET recognises the ability to cope with everyday written and spoken communications at a basic level.

KET enables candidates to demonstrate a level of English that is useful when travelling in English speaking countries.

Who is KET for?

KET is designed for learners who have basic English skills, of the kind needed when travelling in a foreign country. Candidates should be able to understand main points of simple texts, to communicate in the most familiar situations, and to understand short, standard notices and simple spoken directions.

Why Choose KET?

KET is based on language used in real life situations and covers the four language skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking. It provides an assessment of practical skills, and encourages the development of abilities which can be used while travelling, as well as in study and working situations.

KET is an ideal first step for those wishing to progress towards the Preliminary English Test and the other Cambridge ESOL Exams.

What does the KET exam involve?

KET has three papers: Reading & Writing, Listening and Speaking

Reading & Writing (1 Hour and 10 min.)
The Reading and Writing paper assesses the ability to read and understand factual texts taken from signs, brochures, newspapers and magazines. Candidates need to be able to understand the main messages, and have strategies for dealing with unfamiliar words and structures.

Candidates are assessed on their ability to complete gaps in simple texts, transfer information to forms, and complete an everyday writing task, such as writing a short note message of around 20-25 words, to demonstrate control of structure, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.

Listening (25 min.)
The Listening test assesses the ability to understand recorded material such as announcements and monologues, delivered at a moderate pace, and to understand factual information in the recordings.

Speaking (8-10 min.)
The speaking Test assesses the ability to interact in conversational English with an examiner and with another candidate. Candidates need to be able to answer and ask questions about themselves and to talk freely about their likes and dislikes. Candidates normally take the Speaking Test in pairs.

NEW Computer Based (CB) Cambridge ESOL Examinations

Cambridge ESOL also offers some examinations to be taken on the computer. There are a few advantages to computer based examinations which are explained below.

Not only has this added more exam dates each year, but candidates can register for the exam as little as a week before taking it — allowing the exam to be taken when candidates are ready for it.

Katera je glavna razlika med izpitom v papirni obliki in izpitom v računalniški obliki (Paper Based - PB / Computer Based - CB)?

Glavna razlika je v tem, da se preskus branja, pisanja in poslušanja opravlja na računalniku v računalniški učilnici. Preskus govorjenja pa še vedno izvajajo izpraševalci na enak način kot prej.

Nekatere prednosti

  • • Faster access to results, with scores available to be seen online just three weeks after the test.
  • • Many students are more comfortable completing a test with a keyboard and mouse rather than paper and pen.
  • • Pomikanje po testu je zelo hitro in enostavno.
  • • Online timer and help functions allow candidates to get the best from their exam performance.

If you are considering taking a computer-based test, remember:

  • • The computer-based test is another choice in how you take our exams — it does not replace the paper and pen test. Other than the method of completing them, the exams are exactly the same, and they both lead to the same internationally recognised Cambridge ESOL certificate.
  • • The security of computer-based exams is protected by state-of-the-art encryption and an on screen lock-down facility.
