Cambridge ESOL - KET za OŠ - podrobnosti

What is PET for Schools?

The PET for Schools - Cambridge Preliminary English Test for Schools is the second level of Cambridge ESOL exam. It is an intermediate level exam, set at level B1 of the council of Europe’s Common European Framework for modern languages. PET for Schools recognises the ability to cope with everyday written and spoken communications.

The content and treatment of topics in PET for Schools have been particularly targeted at the interests and experience of school pupils.

Why PET for Schools?

  • • PET for Schools is specially tailored to suit the interests of pupils, so it increases their motivation to learn English.
  • • Because it is based on familiar topics and situations, PET for Schools gives pupils the confidence to use their English.
  • • Passing PET for Schools inspires enthusiasm in pupils to move on to further qualifications.
  • • A Cambridge ESOL qualification gives pupils a head start in life. Our qualifications are recognised by colleges, universities, employers and governments around the world.

Why Choose PET for Schools?

  • • understand the main points of straightforward instructions or public announcements
  • • understand instructions on classes and homework given by a teacher or lecturer
  • • ask simple questions and take part in factual conversations in school and study environments
  • • write a description of an event, for example a school trip.

What is involved in taking the PET for Schools exam?

PET for Schools has three papers: Reading & Writing, Listening and Speaking

Reading & Writing (1 Hour 30 min.)Candidates need to be able to read texts from signs, journals, newspapers and magazines and understand the main points. They will need to show they can use vocabulary and structure by completing tasks such as producing a short message, and writing a story or letter of around 100 words.

Listening (30 min.)
Candidates need to show they can understand the meaning of a range of recorded spoken material, including announcements, interviews and discussions about everyday life. They will also need to be able to understand the attitudes and intentions of the speakers.

Speaking (10-12 min.)
Candidates take part in a conversation, asking and answering questions, and talking freely about their likes and dislikes. They take the Speaking test with another candidate or in a group of three.

NEW Computer Based (CB) Cambridge ESOL Examinations

Cambridge ESOL also offers some examinations to be taken on the computer. There are a few advantages to computer based examinations which are explained below.

Not only has this added more exam dates each year, but candidates can register for the exam as little as a week before taking it — allowing the exam to be taken when candidates are ready for it.

Katera je glavna razlika med izpitom v papirni obliki in izpitom v računalniški obliki (Paper Based - PB / Computer Based - CB)?

Glavna razlika je v tem, da se preskus branja, pisanja in poslušanja opravlja na računalniku v računalniški učilnici. Preskus govorjenja pa še vedno izvajajo izpraševalci na enak način kot prej.

Nekatere prednosti

  • • Faster access to results, with scores available to be seen online just three weeks after the test.
  • • Many students are more comfortable completing a test with a keyboard and mouse rather than paper and pen.
  • • Pomikanje po testu je zelo hitro in enostavno.
  • • Online timer and help functions allow candidates to get the best from their exam performance.

If you are considering taking a computer-based test, remember:

  • • The computer-based test is another choice in how you take our exams — it does not replace the paper and pen test. Other than the method of completing them, the exams are exactly the same, and they both lead to the same internationally recognised Cambridge ESOL certificate.
  • • The security of computer-based exams is protected by state-of-the-art encryption and an on screen lock-down facility.
